Abstract

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic demanded from everyone a capacity for resilience and adaptation to the changes in health, society and politics that have resulted. That being considered, the interference that has occurred in the work-life balance of health professionals has been inevitable. Objectives: To reflect and discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the work-life balance of healthcare workers. Material and Methods: Narrative literature review. Results: Studies have highlighted the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on health workers' personal lives and work. Aspects related to personal protective equipment, job uncertainty, job satisfaction, personal relationships, family dynamics, duration of breaks, productivity, knowledge about the disease and the unexpected transformation of non-COVID-19 services into COVID-19 services were considered phenomena of interest that impacted the work-life balance of healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused an unbalance between the personal life and work of healthcare workers. Primary studies analysing this phenomenon in a post-pandemic view are needed. The implementation of programs that support the balance between these two domains are also emergent.
